Villages from Ileanda Commune
Village structure
The village represents a unit, having, as elements the area, the estate and the population, elements that cannot be split apart, that cannot be studied but in a tight correlation.
The area beside the other two elements carries the mark of all social-political unrest this region has gone through and it had a predominant role in its countenance beside environmental conditions.
As for the size, there are:
Small settlements with under 500 inhabitants;
all the commune’s constitutive villages are middle settlements with a population between 1000 and 2000 inhabitants, Ileanda being included in this category.
In a village’s life, its economic functions play an important role. Thus, there are:
Agricultural settlements with complementary functions (industrial and shipping activity), service-oriented functions (administrative, education, cultural, commercial and health services). In this category is included Ileanda and partially Rastoci (due to its quarry);
Agricultural settlements deprived of administrative and social-cultural services. In this category are included all other villages:
Fruit and livestock-growing villages as Sasa, Luminis, Maleni, Dolheni;
Watering settlements such as Bizusa-Bai.
In the determination of the shape, the relief played an important role. Thus, there are three types of villages:
Villages located in the Somes Passage which are linear settlements, constituted of a core and usually having linear tentacles stretched along the motorway or the crossings valleys (i.e. Ileanda);
Villages located in the hilly region are small, the linear shape is frequent, the texture irregular and the structure diffuse due to the fact that the dwellings are situated in the orchards’ middle (i.e. Sasa, Luminis, Dolheni, Rastoci, Perii Vadului, Barsauta);
Villages located on terraces with irregular polygonal shape, irregular texture and compact structure as for instance Podis, Rogna, Negreni.
